The ThorpyFX Heavy Water was born from customer demand for the boost side of THE DANE pedal to be made into its own pedal. As is my way I didn’t want to just rinse and repeat something. As such, the Heavy Water is a dual boost pedal with a twist. The right-hand side (RHS) is the same as the boost found on THE DANE. The left-hand side (LHS) is similarly designed but with more grit/drive available from its Germanium clipping stage. The pedal is designed so that the “DANE” boost runs into the Germanium boost side. This yields three distinct tonal variations ranging from clean boost all the way through to really heavy saturation when combined with your amp. For reference with both sides engaged the HEAVY WATER sends a high headroom HI- WATT DR103 into really heavy distortion. The pedal can also be used as a low boost to subtly polish your sound and fatten up your tone.
There is a foot switch for each side, they can be used independently or combined. It uses top-mounted in/output jacks to maximise pedalboard real estate. Powered by standard 9V centre-negative power supply, using 1% metalfilm resistors, WIMA and Panasonic capacitors where possible, Burr-Brown Op-amps and robust through hole gold-plated PCB’S. Soldered with lead-free solder. The pedal is 2.5in x 4.9in x 2in.
This control gives allows you massive amounts of control, add grittier, germanium-driven clean boost to your signal, use it on its own or with the RHS boost it can really make the pedal sing with complex harmonics and layered overdrive.
This control gives allows you the ability to add low end to the boost side of the pedal. The amount of low end on tap is fantastic for fattening up even the spankiest strat bridge pickup.
This control gives allows you massive amounts of control to add high headroom clean boost to your signal, use it on its own or when stacked into the germanium boost it can really make the pedal sing with complex harmonics and layered overdrive.
This control gives allows you the power to add low end to the boost side of the pedal. Again, loads of low-end on tap.
This turns the germanium voiced boost side on/off. RIGHT FOOTSWITCH: This turns the “DANE” style boost side on/off.
The Heavy Water is designed to work at voltages of 9V DC. This should be from a quality centre negative power supply such as the Gigrig Generator or Voodoo Lab Pedalpower Plus 2. Do not attempt to use this pedal with other voltages or polarities.
